After practicing law for nearly 30 years, I have found that there are really only three things that clients care about when selecting a lawyer: quality legal representation, attentiveness, and reasonable fees.
When you retain me, you can rest assured that I will be your lawyer. I will not hand your file off to an inexperienced associate shortly after the retainer agreement is signed.
As a lawyer, I believe my job is not only to zealously advance my client’s position, but also act as a trusted business advisor and risk manager. My clients often come see me at a particularly stressful time in their lives. I am cognizant of this reality, and do everything I possibly can to alleviate their stress. To this end, I make myself available to my clients around the clock and encourage my clients to contact me on my cell phone at (416) 720-3007 anytime as needed. More importantly, when you do call me, I will be the one answering the phone. I will not forward your call to an associate or law clerk, who knows little about your file and will send you a bill for “file review” for good measure.
I apply common sense to the advice I give to my clients. When it comes to advancing a lawsuit, your legal bill should never exceed the amount which you seek to gain through litigation. Likewise, when defending a lawsuit, your legal bill should never exceed the value of the claim against you. When you retain me as your lawyer, I will discuss all of these considerations with you before determining a course of action.
I am proud of the relationships that I have cultivated with my clients over the years, some of which have spanned decades.
If you are a current or prospective client in need of legal services, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Sincerely,
Richard A. Cooper, Barrister and Solicitor
